I did not get a beauceron with the intention of becoming a breeder – my husband, Dan, and I wanted a dog who was both willing and capable of sticking its paw into every aspect of our lives. We are passionate world travelers and spend the majority of our off time outdoors fishing, surfing, cliff diving, off roading, camping, and hiking - we needed a dog who was bold, formidable, trustworthy, zealous, and versatile; after an overwhelming amount of research and meeting a few at a local dog show we decided that a Beauceron would be a perfect fit. Within the year we imported Xerxes from Slovakia, and soon realized that he was a lot more dog than we had anticipated. We began pouring everything into him that we could, I went from being his “mom” to being his handler.
We trained multiple times a day, and started entering him in sports: conformation, Fast CAT, herding, dock diving, and – what eventually became our chef-d'oeuvre– IGP. He took every new challenge in stride and surpassed every expectation I set for him, breaking records in the Beauceron breed: in dock diving he achieved the longest jump (in his breed) of 27ft. After placing 1st in IGP1, 2nd IGP2, 4th in IGP3 achieving high in protection & high in tracking awards in Regionals; Xerxes and I flew to Columbus, Ohio where he became the first Beauceron in history to attend IGP Nationals in the USA.
He’s where our Adventure first started but not where its ending…
The last thing on our bucket list was to get into the TV & Film Industry. Within this last year, we finally did. Xerxes performed in bitework on a TV show, acted as a scary dog in a music video, and played a police dog in a movie.
He’s is not only the foundation of our breeding program but what compelled it to exist in the first place, to me, he embodies everything a Beauceron should be, he has inspired a duty-esque passion for preserving and improving upon the breed.
Xerxes has changed my life forever and I am so excited to see what the future brings for our family, the friends we make along the way, and our Beauceron breeding program!
